Heather C. Freedman is a visual artist and designer for theatre, opera, and film. A love of interdisciplinary collaboration and storytelling drew her to theatre design. 

Recent work includes: Henrik Ibsen’s The Wild Duck in a new version by David Eldridge (TFANA & Shakespeare Theatre Co); Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya starring Hugh Bonneville (Berkeley Rep & Shakespeare Theatre Co); World Premiere of Tina Howe’s Where Women Go (The Tent Theater) (Henry Hewes nomination: Best Costume Design); Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Gianni Schicchi (NYU Steinhardt);  and Newtown Odyssey, a floating opera co-created by composer Kurt Rohde, writer Dana Spiotta, and artist Marie Lorenz

From 2015-2017, Heather was the Resident Fellow of Rhode Island School of Design’s European Honors Program in Rome. There she collaborated on costumes for William Kentridge and Kristin Jones’s “Triumphs and Laments”, an operatic procession on the banks of the Tiber River. 

Heather lives in New York City. Teaching: NYU Tisch, Design for Stage and Film; Auburn University; Fordham University. Training: BFA Rhode Island School of Design; MFA NYU Tisch. She is a proud member of USA829.
